Re: Craft Corner

@Phoenix_Rising how awesome to hear you're interested in sewing too! these are skills that add so much to one's sense of self as well as being able to be the tiniest bit self sufficient in time also.

Also really looking forward to seeing your latest crochet project PR.

If you have any questions, please ask as I may not cover everything that can be questioned no matter how much I try to be as in depth as possible. Smiley LOLSmiley Frustrated

Which reminds me there are really useful books worth having on hand for learning sewing techniques too.
@greenpea

The Reader's Digest Complete Guide to Sewing is one I can recommend, however, my copy is from like the 1970's or so, and I am not familiar with the updates. bookdepository 3 different editions of REader's Digest complete guide to sewing book

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member So funny the Readers Digest I remember seein that in doctors surgeries as a child. Are they still in print? Havent thought of them for years. Fond childhood memories.

Re: Craft Corner

Yeah, @greenpea I used to be a subscriber to their magazines until they became not worth the price for me. I really don't know if the magazine is still in print, but they do have many hard covered books that are/ were really good. I was pleased to see the Complete guide to Sewing still around an updated, although I'm always wary of recommending updated books when I haven't seen the changes made from the one i use.

Palmer Pletsch also have good sewing guides I have an overlocker one from back just after the dinosaurs died out. OH Well now, I just did a search for them and they have all sorts of stuff still going. Good to know!

I did not realise just how much of an influence Patti Palmer's techniques had had on me and my eclectic bag of sewing tricks!

Okay, time for me to go do the things I'm supposed to be doing. Heart

wonderful day wishes for everyone.

Re: Craft Corner

How exciting @greenpea that your parcel has arrived! I hope it gives you a lovely pick-me-up for the day. You're doing well, better than you can probably see at the moment. Heart

When you feel like answering,no hurry, did you decide on going ahead with the Wool and the Gang utube tutorial ? I think she did a very detailed teaching video.

I would appreciate some opinon on the current tatted handkerchief project for those hwo might be interested @greenpea @CheerBear @Phoenix_Rising @Appleblossom @Former-Member @Snowie @OhanaSystem @Faith-and-Hope @Shaz51 @Teej @eth @Mazarita @BlueBay @MoonGal @Catcakes

Tatted hanky.JPG I've done a round in white, initially it was going to be quite intricate using the white for a number of rows, but the thread is dreadful to work with and shreds so the remainder of the work will show that as it progresses. Luckily for this round, the shredding thread is covered by the other thread.

I could continue with another white in a different brand, but not all whites are equally white, and certainly don't remain so with the passing of time.

So, Q1 Do I leave it as is with just the one row of white already done?

Or, Q2 Do I add more work in a variegated colour as I have begun with the variegated pink and white?

The current pink and white addition is too 'chunky' for my liking so will be removed and I'd start again making a different design.

variegation colour choices are Canary Yellow through to White; the Pink and White in the image, Lavender through to white. The colour yellow is a bit iffy in this shade as it has 'reminders of past horrors' attached to it though and I'm not sure I should use it as it can still be triggering. Yeah, yellow is out.

Would really appreciate some thoughts, I have another scalloped edged white handkerchief that I intend finishing with the intricate white edging, so that idea is not entirely lost. I think the idea of an all white intricate lacey edging made just for me is rather appealing.

I rarely made those intricate things for myself, always as gifts for others, mine were always practical and serviceable, so I'm practicing the art of making delicate, intricate, pretty things that are just for me.

I hope everyone is having the type of day they would wish for themselves. Heart

Darn it, the fairies did not come in while my back was turned and finish the housework, oh well, it seems I will have to finish it myself.

Re: Craft Corner

I like it with the simple white border lace @Former-Member. Do you embroider ? Some embroidered flowers in a corner would be nice .....

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member Am waiting for the pic to come up. Funny I never liked the colour yellow either ...

Re: Craft Corner

Glad you have what you need for a new project! @greenpea

@Former-MemberCannot see pic yet, but I thought last night gratefully of our sewing machine conversations. Lo and behold my son told me he was sewing at his sisters place and using an overlocker to make oujtfit for his upcoming workshop week. She gets her sewing and dancing from me but not her genes.
