Honestly, sometimes it is, and then sometimes the price some people think an item is worth is quite simply ridiculous! ![]()
This one time (no, not at bandcamp, it was in a mall on a travel adventure ![]()
) I was wearing the first original design I'd made of a mandala style vest thing with long sleeves and a witchy sort of hood style that was down at the back. It cost me very little for the yarn 'cos, sales bought, but, the yarn itself was worth at least $500. Then there was my time which when condensed to number of hours actually worked and not counting designing, ran to about 100 hours x say $5/ hour.
Person raved over how beautiful; would I sell it to them, etc. Offered me $20 for it. It was all I could do to remain polite and move on instead of laughing in their face.
It's rare that anyone will offer a price that is realistic, but when it happens, it's worth thinking about it and sometimes carrying through.
It might sound like I'm a bit full of myself, but it's happened enought that I often make the decision as to price and keep/ sell before leaving the house in some of my special one of garments. ![]()

Sounds like a gorgeous garment @Former-Member. Worth something like $300 not $20! I used to crochet rainbow beanies to order which would take up to 10 hours to make, plus the cost of the wool in 7 colours - and I could only get $10 each for them as there were Nepalese ones at the same market - made by sweatshop labour.

@eth Yes, I see that type of mass marketing of what used to be cottage craft all the time, it is very frustrating being a crafter and having that happen to you lovely work.
I think I know those beanies from days of old,or at least the type of beanie - beautiful beautiful work.
Maybe you can share, if you'd like to, some images of not identifiable works you have made? I have some I'd so like to share, but identifiable, so not happening. ![]()
@Bunniekins it would indeed be good to be able to communicate more closely, but we're doing okay here too aren't we.
Better than not at all. How is your scarf coming along? I htink you were making / finishing one for yourself before your yarns come. Exciting wait on those new yarns. I feel excited for you!

Sorry @Former-Member I can't post pics, my camera has a blotch on the lens that can't be fixed and I can't afford another one. I'm half done with a purple woollen scarf crocheted and a dream catcher made with jute, wool and silk thread (purple and turquoise) and pieces of turquoise. I'm really good at starting things then shelving them! My creativity comes in waves with bipolar elevation, not so much when depressed. I'm usually one or the other. Maybe this thread will motivate me again.

Thank you @Snowie I do try to keep a balance between busy and rest and all that. As so much has changed in recent months, there are so many less 'must do' tasks that I can focus more on my crafting. Which I am very happy with.
How are you going with your own crafting?

LOL about short messages @Former-Member Sometimes I'm more verbose and sometimes little to say. It's all ok. I don't know what shuttle tatting is.

@eth Yeah, true actually, sometimes I just can't write anything myself.
I did a post about shuttle tatting 2 pages back, or 3 if this rolls over to a new page, for @Bunniekins.
there's an image there too. That might help explain, feel welcome to ask again if it doesn't though. ![]()
Always feel welcome to pop on over if you feel like you would like some motivation to pick up one of your projects @eth. I work on whatever I have the 'feels' for at a given time. It might also be because I want it done too. but then sometimes I get to a point where I'm not sure how to continue (I make up my own designs) and have to shelve it for a time while I let it percolate to a solution. My brown Bruges lace tabard is in that position right now and I had so wanted to finish it. Not to worry, it will get done soon enough.
Sorry 'bout the camera. darned thing.
(edited to add the bit that got missed)
your dream catcher sounds amazing, and the scarf too. Individually crafted pieces are so inspiring. ![]()

Good evening @eth@CheerBear@Former-Member@Bunniekins@Snowie and all popping by
@Former-Member - you are such a treasure. I love your posts 💞 And you are so talented to boot! Yes, these activities distract from those dark thoughts and it is very therapeutic and relaxing for this reason - I have found this also with my cross stitch, beading, metallic and silk embroidery. I have done a few but will leave you with a picture of a simple one I did for my daughter a few years ago. I love the colours in it - does give me a lift. I am always working on one project and I am now into stitching on Opalescent hand dyed fabrics (linen and even- weave). Look forward to seeing more pics of your beautiful work. Have a joyful, relaxing evening xx
