Re: Craft Corner

Joy and happiness here for me tonight - have finally finished the door privacy/ sunlight screen!

4 individual light wooden panels, covered with polypop cotton in descending order of colour from Sunshine-ish Orange to Canary-ish Yellow to Daisy-ish Yellow to Cream. Each panel is separately made and joined by 4 'hinges' of velcro pieces sewn onto fabric hinges.

I am so pleased with having worked out how to utilise the wooden panels I had on hand and to make something serviceable and pleasing to the eye, without having to resort to paint and metal hinges. It's taken a while but I think it's totally worth that wait and the effort of making, thinking, remaking bits and finally getting it as it has developed.

It's a bit scrunched up so I could fit all 4 panels into the frame.

Re: Craft Corner

Adding another finished project here tonight (to go with the finished privacy screen up above) while I'm feeling pleased about having finished it a little bit ago while watching tv. @Bunniekins @CheerBear @Mazarita @MoonGal @OhanaSystem @Phoenix_Rising @BlueBay @Catcakes @Snowie @Former-Member @Shaz51 @Appleblossom

I started working on distraction projects and using things from my stash, this pretty embroidered handkerchief was in that stash. (There's another one that I may needle tatt around) I began it earlier in the week after purchasing the tools needed to make the holes for the edging.

Bad Hanky.JPG  I worked the first round okay, and went on to make a lacey edging. I was not happy with the end product even after the 6 or so hours it took. Sat with it for a little bit, then decided to undo it. If I'm going to do something, I need to do it properly even if it means undoing and redoing.

So I undid it all and began again (not the foundational base row of holes and loops). I realised I'd forgotten to make the basic 'header row' that all lace has and then worked a prettier, daintier, more shapely pattern of scallops which I am very happy with. I remembered why I love embroidered and edged hankies so much!
Good Hankie.JPG It was so worth it to undo and start again. I'm very happy with it. Heart

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member Sunshower your work is so pretty. I love it!

Re: Craft Corner

Looks wonderful @Former-Member! Well done. My daughter could do with a couple like that to  give herself some much needed privacy. You really are a very clever lady 😄 xx ps: did you ever think of starting your own arts and crafts business?

Hi @Former-Member

Re: Craft Corner

Happy Sunday to all in the Craft Corner!

Thank you @Former-Member @Bunniekins @Snowie @Mazarita @Faith-and-Hope @Catcakes @Appleblossomfor your lovely comments and support clicks. I have the pretty hankie sitting on my desk at the moment and looking at it from time to time makes me smile and feel good about myself.

It may seem odd or meaningless to some people, however for me, the little things like this are an important part of my arsenal of defence against the dark moments that all too often try to invade my thoughts. It's also so nice when someone else is inspired in some way to a brighter moment by the time taken to share such personal moments of pleasure.

I tried the needle tatting last night, I know I'm not practised at it yet, but the working of it does not seem to give as fine and neat an appearance as the shuttle tatting. I shall have to try differen threads and patterns. My tension of the knots on the needle is currently too tight for easy movement off the needle and onto the thread. It's a bit confusing. Anyone here needle tat? Would love some pointers if anyone does ...Smiley Frustrated

Sunday is going quietly after a noisy lawn mowing neighbourhood start. Some more catching up on sewing projects so I can get to the writing project I've been requested to help with next week.

May there be some wonderful moments in your day today!

Re: Craft Corner

@Bunniekins Yeah, I did have a business of that variety for many years - making clothes for others, adults and children. There was much to do and enjoy about it too. I made clothes for markets and also for specialty stores, things like little boys suits and christening gowns and little girls' party style dresses and layettes too. (showing my age here with those words Smiley Embarassed)

I also ran teaching workshops both privately and through various teaching facilities for a lot of years.

Things changed and the need for security and the anxiety and stuff meant that all had to stop. I do still do some things for some people at times. (when i feel like it). And sometimes I can wear an item to the shops and someone wants to buy it right there and then. Depending on what it is and the price they are willing to pay, I'll sell it to them. Robot LOL Heart

Wish I could help you, or her, make that privacy screen for your daughter. Smiley Frustrated

Re: Craft Corner

@Former-Member I wish we could swap email addresses and correspond but alas this is it ....nonetheless you are inspiring me with all your crafty posts which is great. What a compliment to have people buy something that you are wearing! Wow! that must put a huge smile on your face when that happens 😄
