WORLD HIPPO DAY

Hi @Zoe7 @Shaz51 @outlander @Emelia8 @Appleblossom @Hams @Anastasia @TAB @Historylover @greenpea @Snowie@Chibam@Faith-and-Hope

Today is World Hippo Day - I totally love this - I'm not actually sure if I have seen real live hippos in the Melbourne Zoo - it's so long since I've been there - I know I didn't seem them when I visited the zoo in Sydney but then I didn't see much there - it's so hilly - walking downhill was enough to see the gorillas and the elephants, ah - yes - meerkats and Tamarine monkeys - pelicans.

But no hippos

I think they are fantastic - David Attenborough has given us so much information on wild-life I would not know about without his different TV series - so I know hippos are social animals but maybe find life less agreeable when their watery homes shrink during hot summers

Perhaps I need to visit the zoo in Melbourne - I remember taking my daughter and her girlfriend there when they were young teenagers - that was so long ago now - all I can really remember is the butterfly enclosure - and I could enjoy myself because the girls were old enough to go off alone

Perhaps we could organise a virtual zoo-excursion

Re: WORLD HIPPO DAY

During lockdown the Melbourne Zoo offered a virtual Zoo - they had animals with cameras in their enclosures because people were not allowed to go anywhere during covid @Owlunar

Re: WORLD HIPPO DAY

@Owlunar  have you heard of fiona the hippo from Cincinnati zoo she has quite the following on social media and is also very cute.

Re: WORLD HIPPO DAY

A virtual zoo trip is a wonderful idea @Owlunar

Maybe the NSW hippos are at Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo.

The secret to doing Sydney Zoo is bus to entrance then criss cross your way down to the ferry wharf.

Happy Hippo Day!!!

Re: WORLD HIPPO DAY

Thanks @Eve7

I'm sure we could organise a virtual zoo trip and post lots of photos - we could see what animals are in zoos all over Australia

I can't seem to post photos atm - and I love writing captions - I don't think I am actually signed in under my new name - i will have to check on that - I am a bit busy this week

But yes - that is on my list of things-to-do

Re: WORLD HIPPO DAY

Great to see you her @Former-Member

I remember I did hear about the virtual zoo in Melbourne - alas - I did not look to see it - I remember the lockdown meant several trips into hospital for me and that seemed to take over my life for a while - that was when my shoulder was hurt when I had a fall onto it when I tripped - BANG!!

Either I am getting used to it now or the medication and treatments are working - it will never be really good so a virtual zoo trip is safer and easier for me than actually going - the Melbourne Zoo is on the other side of the city from where I live and the Western Zoo is even further away.

And suddenly - I would love to see all the animals again - I feel like a kid
