Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

lol @Former-Member  ..

@Smc  so you're responsible for the goat outbreak?  I missed how it started but well everyone ran with it. 🙂  Never heard of japonica quinces, certainly sound great for scones if they have a quincy tang though. I love mixes of flavours so tangy on scones would go really well for me especially scones made with cream as per @Faith-and-Hope's recipe.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Spookytookims Sometime way back in the thread when we were talking about pets, I commented about our current ones being chooks, bunnies and a guinea pig, and in the past including a nanny goat who liked to lean on her "elbows" at the front fence to watch passing traffic... which slowed down to watch her in return. 😄 Since that point "Hot Chocolate" has obviously morphed into a cookery forum, but the goaty theme carried over between the two topics.

Japonica jelly is a touch tangier than regular quince. The plants are usually grown as ornamentals (see photo), most people don't know you can eat the fruit, so they drop off and lie unwanted on the ground... that is, until someone like me that knows they're actually treasure in disguise comes along. I've picked up enough of them that I'm wondering if I might even have enough to bottle some... could be interesting. 🙂

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Smc do you use a churn for the butter? We had a cream separator and a butter churn. Often thought about getting them out and giving my children a demo. Dont have the ready supply of fresh milk anymore though so a bit hard.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

@Determined
Does it take a lot of milk to get a decent amount of cream?

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

 Depended on the cow and what they were eating @Former-Member, jerseys were the best,

Cant rember exactly but probably 2-3 l of creame of 10l of milk. You have me thinking now. Will havd to ask mum and report back. Friesians were poor in the cream department, ours were anyway.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?

ohhhh @Smc  of course!! yes I remember that. Have the visual in my head of that one.  sorry I forgot

Lovely tree.  I've never made jam... I could imagine it would be good in curries as an alternative to the sweeter fruit chutney versions.

Re: Hot Chocolate Anyone ?
