Transitioning from hospital care to private psychiatrist?

So I've had my second med review, and had my dosage lowered (due to my weight gain).  My hospital psychiatrist has said that if I continue to go well, they might discharge me from hospital care and have me have med reviews every six months or so with a private psychiatrist.  It's been a year since I was in hospital with my psychosis.  How did everyone go with managing this transition away from the hospital care?

Re: Transitioning from hospital care to private psychiatrist?

@Gwynn  Well done on being out of hospital for 12 mths.

In the city I live in, they have a transition place. It’s where people are discharged, but live in accommodation and regain some more independence. They are allowed to stay up to 3 mths. It’s proving to be valuable.

It’s not easy going straight to home after a long stay in hospital. I hope the transition from hospital care works out ok for you.

@Gwynn  I had to find a pyschiatrist through my gp .... luckly for me he was great and bulk billed.

Re: Transitioning from hospital care to private psychiatrist?

You found a psychiatrist that bulk bills? That's amazing! I can't even find one that will see me that will charge full fees, every single one in my city has their books closed.

Re: Transitioning from hospital care to private psychiatrist?

I was in hospital for a month. When I was discharged I was left to my own devices, I had no money and was behind in rent. Luckily my family were able to help me out with a place to stay.

I have had trouble finding a private psychiatrist. No one is accepting new patients atm. So I have to get a referral back to the crisis team any time I need a med adjustment.

Hope your transition goes well. All the best!
